New Field In Oxford Empty New Field In Oxford

Post by Shawnvad1145 Sun Jan 20, 2013 10:21 pm

Looking for a new woodsball field?

As a land owner and paintball enthusiast, my father and I are planning to open a woodsball course as soon as possible. As we were sitting around before Christmas, we decided that we have enough land and resource's to open a woodsball field. We need to wait for the snow to clear up a bit more and we will begin clearing out some of the underlying brush and constructing bunkers and bases for situation games as well as team games. We are planning to have an onsite Co2 and HPA fill station as well as a repair shop. Maybe even a pro shop.

As of right now we are unsure of actual field size and or pricing but we can assure you that we will have a competitive field for all to play on sometime in the near future. What we need now is an idea of how many people are in or around the Oxford area that would like to play. We are approx 2-3 miles from the new Oxford Casino on RT 26. Sound off and let us know if your interested!

As news develops I will post more here on this thread. Thanks guys!

I would have to disagree Maine needs less fields. I have traveled all over the US for paintball. Huge markets NY FL CA all have very small numbers of fields. Look at the MA has a population of 6.6 million and 3 real fields with 4-6 "wanna" be fields that are sketchy at best. Here in Maine we have a little better than 1 million and 5+ fields. Plus our population is spread out. It amazes me how quickly the paintball community forgets. There was a paintball store and field in Oxford during the heyday of paintball called NEPS. What the area needs is better paintball fields. Something that will attract non paintball playing people as well as the paintball dirt bags that want everything for free. Yes, I'm included in that. Shawn also posted up that he wants to do some marker repairs. I'm going to guess that he has never been to any airsmithing classes, let alone marker specific classes. If your using a drill press to fix my ego you have done something very wrong. pale Most of you know me and that I'm an ass, but I do know business (owning my own) and have run, set up, and shut down multiple fields here in ME. It is hard to do it right, some of the best fields are no longer around because of the economy, and the flavor of the week opening down the street.

I agree, The drill press comment was made for custom machine work and was a bit off topic. I have since edited the post to clarify.

As far as airsmithing classes, you are right. I have never taken a course and do not intend to. Everyone out there typically services or repairs their own equipment. Some times its easier to have someone else do it for them. There are some things I wouldn't ever do to a gun due to lack of experience. If we decide to open a pro shop or have a tech on site, they will have the proper training of course. That post was intended to be a way for me to help others that may not have the know how in MY area.

As far as Maine needing less fields, I have to disagree. We need more variety in the state. Not just southern Maine or north eastern Maine.

This is what we are hoping to accomplish. With your help and the help of others we hope to be around for a long time. Im not asking for your time, or your services, but I would like some input on what you feel needs to be done to be successful in this industry. If I wanted negativity I would walk down the street and shoot a few balls through the neighbors window and ask him how he felt about me opening a course. This is supposed to be a community that supports paintballers as well as field owners. I hope I feel the support soon.

For as harsh as Troy can be he makes some very valid points. I've seen a good amount of great fields fail in this state as well. If you're gonna give it a go good luck, and I'm sure you can get a lot of help from people here.

I've played at Lost Valley a bunch, Field 51 and Birch Hill too. There was another place but not sure the name. May have been a back yard.

New Field In Oxford Empty Re: New Field In Oxford

Post by maineiacpballer Tue Jan 22, 2013 7:20 pm

my take on opening a field in Maine is all about its location. Oxford is an hour from Portland. How are you going to attract all of the people that already play at field 51, or birch hill to take the trek to come and see you? A LARGE base of the players on this forum play competitive paintball, not just walk on play. I guess what I am saying is for any successful business to prosper you need to have the knowledge to run it, the location to make it feasible and a client base that will stick with you.

I see a waste of time putting a field outside of the Portland area(meaning 30 min drive time.) To me it is a waste of time and money. Look at the population base of Maine and look to see where a large majority of the population lives. I am just trying to point out some important factors. I like the idea of you giving it a go, just be prepared to loose your shirt in the process. Paintball may seem simple; air, bunkers, markers, paint; there is just more that you are going to need to make it work. I wish you luck, and I will probably never make it up that way to play unless you open up a true xball field, with all the bells and whistles that go with it, but then again, that in its own right is an investment.

I say DO IT! I'll come check it out sometime.

Leave the brush alone. It will get trampled down in time. Virgin fields are fun.

Good luck!

I'm just one player, but I have a bit of a harsh truth for you: If I'm going to drive south from camden to play, I'm not going to risk driving to someones backyard business when there are some much more established fields that do the woodsball thing already. I might take the gamble for a speedball course, but otherwise I'm probably going to go to F51.
